Ursula's Alcove: Yarn
Ursula's Alcove offers the following selection of yarns.
More will be added as time goes on. It is recommended that you see these yarns
in person as color monitors do not give an accurate color. Please note that dye
lots will also vary. We find it best if you see us at an event. However, yarn cards
are available by request, depending on demand. Email us your name, snail mail address
and yarn type. We will do our best to get out a card sometime soon.
Jaggerspun Heather
This is a top-dyed worsted spun wool yarn. It weaves and knits nicely. Heather is
also great for knitted, felted projects when using multiple strands. Ursula's Alcove
carrys it in the 2/8 (approximately 2240 yards per pound) and 3/8 (approx 1490 ypp)

Jaggerspun Zephyr
Zephyr is a blend of 50% Merino Wool and 50% Chinese Tussah
Silk. It is available in two sizes: 2/18 at approximately 5040 yards per pound and in a
4/8 size at approx 1120 ypp. This yarn has an amazing number of uses. It knits up nicely,
weaves, card-weaves, felts, finger braids, crochets, and so much more. Note that due to
the dye adhering differently to the wool versus the silk, it is recommended that this
be dry cleaned only.The 2/18 is priced at $5.25 per one ounce ball. The 4/8 is $18 per

Jaggerspun Super Lamb
Super Lamb is made from 100 % Superwash Merino Lambs Wool. Yes, washable wool! It
comes in a fine 2/24 size which is approximately 5960 yards per pound. One ounce balls

Nomad Bactrian Camel
This soft camel yarn is raised by Mongolian herders in the traditional way. Communities
migrate, living different summer and winter locations in the traditional ger. It is
handspun on drop spindles and supported spindles and sometimes washed in mares' milk to set the twist.
The odor is not unpleasant. It is great for weaving, knitting, and felting. It is available
in single ply and double ply. The yarn is available the natural brown color and occaisionally
in a creamy white. Click on the
Camel page for pictures and more information. Unfortunately, transportation costs to
America are rather high. At present, Camel is $21 for a 50 gram (1.75 oz) skein,
$42 for a 100 g (3.5 oz) bundle of skeins, $176 for a 400 g bundle of skeins, and
$210 for a 500 g bundle of skeins. Skein sizes vary. Genereally,
2 ply yarn is 86 meters per 100 grams (27 - 30 yds per oz). Single ply is roughly
40 - 42 yds an ounce. Single ply has a Z twist and is slightly overspun, making it
great for naalbinding. Care: Hand wash or dry clean.
Normandy Linen
This linen is imported wet spun line flax from France and Belgium.
It is great for weaving, making cord, and the finer thread is good for sewing.

At present, Normandy linen is $5.25 an ounce or $50 a cone (approx 0.9 lbs) for
Bleached Ivory and Natural Gray. Black is only available in the 16/4 size. Black linen is
$12 for a 2 oz. ball or $60 for a one pound cone.
Prime Alpaca
This luscious Peruvian yarn is 100 % superfine Alpaca raised at high altitudes,
13,000 to 16,000 ft above sea level. This sportweight yarn comes in Bleached White,
Black, Charcoal, Mist Gray, Natural, Camel, Chocolate, Nutmeg, Musk, Fawn, and Silver
Gray. All colors are naturally occuring. A four ounce skein lists for $12.00. Only skeins
are available. Prices may vary without warning. There are
